Special symposium in honour of Professor Archie Howie
A particular highlight of the conference will be a special symposium to mark the 80th birthday of Professor Archie Howie, and focusing on one area of electron microscopy research where his interest in beam specimen-interactions has been relevant - in-situ microscopy.
This symposium, held on Thursday 5 September, will include the following invited speakers:
Professor Toshio Ando, Kanazawa University, Japan
Professor José Calvino, University of Cádiz, Spain
Professor Edward D Boyes, University of York, UK
Professor Laurence D Marks, Northwestern University, USA
Professor Kunio Takayanagi, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan
Professor Pratibha Gai, University of York, UK
Professor Howie will present an after-dinner talk at the conference dinner about the launch and subsequent voyage of the book: Electron Microscopy of Thin Crystals by Hirsch, Howie, Nicholson, Pashley and Whelan, which was published almost 50 years ago.
